The Wherry

The Wherry

In the southern part of the protective casing there is a four-oared wherry with a rudder and a boat-hook built by Peter I. The length of the wherry is 7m 70cm.

Alongside with iceboats, galleys and yachts, wherries were widely used as transport means in Peter’s time when there were no bridges over the Neva River. In 1824, the wherry was repaired by the Admiralty masters, and in 1889, for the purpose of keeping the wherry, the southern part of the casing was built.
